Sharon L Cromer The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Gambia has lauded the effort of Ndey Jabang, a former Mandela fellow for his brilliant initiative to train 75 young people with performing arts skills blended with entrepreneurial tools.
The US diplomat made the statement while delivering her keynote speech at the graduation ceremony of the trainees at the Alliance Franco Gambiene on Saturday.
“With the help of artistic entrepreneurs like Ndey, Gambian arts is awakening. Last year, Ndey submitted a great proposal to the American Embassy with an interesting promise to teach people. ”
The Ambassador further added that Ndey has concerned that others do not have to starve to pursue their career. ” She believes that others can strive as entrepreneurs.”
It could be recalled that Ndey Jabang was a 2019 Mandela Washington Fellow, among 8 promising young people selected among 400 applicants to participate in the prestigious United States Exchange Program developed by ex-president Obama.
“The US government promotes the arts because it’s an essential part of our culture in America. Is enshrined in the first amendment of the US Constitution to promote free speech and free expression. This is the bedrock of our American Democracy.”
The weekend ceremony was punctuated by a spectacular display of performing artistic skills by graduates with a musicals extravaganza.
