The Gambia is part of thirteen (13) countries to signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop unified regulations for traditional wrestling that can serve as a global reference.

Gambia Wrestling Association President Mr Serigne Modou Faye, after agreeing to the declaration on behalf of the GWA, described the MoU as a landmark achievement for The Gambia and GWA in particular, “I feel honored to sign this important MoU on behalf of Gambian wrestling. This shows how far we’ve come as a nation endowed with the power of wrestling. For the Gambia to be part of the countries entrusted to develop the regulations for Traditional Wrestling that will be used globally is no small feat. Our work is recognised globally, and attending this summit will further enhance our potential to attract partners and possible investors in our traditional sport”, he lamented.

The purpose of the MoU is to establish cooperation amongst the signatory parties for the development of unified regulations for traditional wrestling that can serve as a global reference in international competitions.

Furthermore, the signatories will collaborate and maintain a sustainable partnership as they jointly launch and oversee the process of developing regulations.

The MoU will also envisage further collaboration and projects amongst the signatories.

The Gambia, with the representation of Mr. Serign Modou Faye, has continued to gain further recognition as a traditional wrestling country at the ongoing 2023 World Ethonosport Confederation Summit in Khiva, Uzbekistan.
