The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) is pleased to inform the public that Professor Samuel P. Owusu-Ofori has been appointed as Interim Vice Chancellor of the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) effective 1st January 2024 to 31st September 2024.
As Interim Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ofori will provide leadership and strategic direction to the USET and coordinate the activities of the three components of USET, including the day-to-day administration of the College of Science & Engineering (STEE), the Institute of Technical Training and its regional annexes, the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and related administrative activities.
As a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Samuel Ofori joined the USET in 2021 as a Senior University Consultant under the World Bank-funded ACE Impact Project. He was hired to support the first phase of GTTI’s transformation into USET by establishing the Emerging Centre of Excellence on Science, Technology and Engineering for Entrepreneurship (STEE).
The erudite Professor has over 40 years of academic experience as a professor and an administrator, mainly in the United States. He earned a BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a Master of Science Degree from Bradley University (USA) and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
Professor Ofori’s technical expertise is in applying statistical and stochastic techniques to the design, modelling, analysis and control of mechanical equipment and systems, development of manufacturing technology, and tribology of manufactured surfaces. He is an expert in engineering education, curriculum development and programme assessment for continuous improvement.
Professor Owusu-Ofori was awarded an endowed professorship as “Boeing Professor of Manufacturing” in 1999 and was also recognised by KNUST in 2005 with an “Honorary Doctor of Science” degree for his contributions to the advancement of science and technology and his services to the University as an alumnus.
