The executive of The Gambia Secondary Schools Sport Association updates the media and public about the forthcoming championship heats across the country.
Abdou Karim Sey the Chairman says the inter school athletic heats starts this weekend in region five and region six. Next week, the 8th to 11th at farafenni for North Bank , Bottrop from 15 to 18the for the West coast region finally to the grater Banjul area at Abuko Upper Basics school on the 22nd to 25th. Championship will strictly go by the rules of athletics in all the event.Mr Sey added that during their tour,teacher coordinators have agreed on the stipulated rules.
Ismaila Ceesay,The President of Secondary School Association says the number of qualifiers have been increased from 2 to3 participants in the final but he noted that only The West Coast Region is given the opportunity to have 4 qualifiers. “This is due to the fact that they normally have more participating schools in the championship. Over 170 schools are expected to participate this year. He emphasized that if any school is found cheating and committing violence will be sanctioned or banned from participating in the secondary school championship.He calls on athletic clubs both local and international to come and scout some talented athletes and register them in their teams “ we are pleading on all business entities and organisations who are willing to partner with us, our doors are open because secondary schools athletics championship needs support”
