Barely three weeks after his inauguration as President of the Republic of Senegal, H. E. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye will visit The Gambia on Saturday, 20 April 2024, for a day’s visit.
President Barrow will receive his esteemed guest at the Banjul International Airport at 10:00 AM and will accord him with complete protocol and diplomatic courtesies.
It is with delight that President Adama Barrow looks forward to receiving a counterpart and brother, President Faye. Senegal and The Gambia share historical, cultural and socio-economic ties, which President Barrow describes as, “We are two countries, but one people.” As a result, it is not a surprise that H.E. Faye chose The Gambia as one of the first countries he would visit as Head of State. It will be the first opportunity for the two leaders to have a tête-a-tête and discuss bilateral issues.
The day’s visit also demonstrates the mutual interest in building stronger ties, and there is optimism that the new government will enhance the already existing brotherly relationship between the two countries.
The Presidential Council, established in 2018 between the two countries, provides a forum to strengthen bilateral relations without administrative bottlenecks. It creates an opportunity for the two countries to converge and dialogue on significant issues of common interest and make concrete decisions for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples.
The Gambian Leader will receive President Faye at the State House in Banjul, where the official ceremony will take place, after which President Faye will depart Banjul.
