The National Assembly Select Committee on Monitoring the Implementation of Government Projects led by Chairperson, Hon. Yahya Sanyang, embarked on an oversight tour from the 15th to 20th May 2024.
The purpose of this tour was to monitor the progress of ongoing government infrastructural projects across the country. Accompanying the Committee was Mr. George Jatta, Technical Director at the National Roads Authority (NRA).
During the six-day tour, the Committee engaged with contractors, consultants, engineers, and supervisors to evaluate the status of several critical road projects. These included: Nuimi Hakalang Road, Kaur Jimbala Road, Kabada Corridor Road Project, Kiang Road Project, and the OMVG Electricity Project.
The Committee also inspected roads within urban areas, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the country’s infrastructure development.
The engagements were meant to give the Committee a clear picture of progress and challenges in the implementation of the various projects.
On the areas of road infrastructure, the Committee took note of concerns over delays, particularly stressing the urgency to expedite work where drainage is necessary in the urban area to avoid flooding given the impending rainy season. Similarly, delays in the relocation of services like water pipes, network and electric cables were cited as a major challenge in the ongoing works.
The Committee is positive that engagement with stakeholders will ensure the advancement of these projects and adherence to quality standards as stipulated in the contracts.
