President Adama Barrow warmly received a delegation from the Gambia Turkish Business Council at the State House in Banjul on Friday, August 9th.
Following a private meeting between the parties, Fatou Senghore, CEO of Fatima Trading and chair of the Gambia-Turkish Business Council, expressed that their visit aimed to introduce the council to the president. She mentioned that the council has been active for the past 15 years and outlined their mission, emphasizing the benefits it could bring to the country through collaborations with the Turkish government and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.
Senghore highlighted the desire to strengthen the relationship between The Gambia and Turkey. She also conveyed the council’s need for the president’s assistance in attracting investors. With a membership of about 500 in Turkey, they sought to replicate a similar group in The Gambia to facilitate investments. By encouraging investors to establish local manufacturing facilities, they aimed to reduce the country’s reliance on imports and create job opportunities for the youth.
Ali Hydara, a council member, emphasized the council’s goal of enhancing ties between the private sectors of both countries to attract investors and promote economic growth. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the government to generate employment opportunities. Hydara highlighted the potential for Turkish companies to establish factories in The Gambia, contributing to job creation and economic development.
