frica’s inaugural urban forum enters its second day today as experts from various fields, including governments, academia, urban planners, economists, architects, developers, community leaders, residents, civil society, the private sector (developers), policymakers, development agencies, NGOs, and practitioners discuss and share 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 and 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 related to 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚.
The engagements include a combination of plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and exhibitions.
The African Union Commission and its member-states established the Africa Urban Forum in 2022, in response to the rising consciousness of the 𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in Africa, its 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, & challenges, and the need to create a continental forum to support an 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 and 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 to 𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in Africa.
