As Gambia prepares to make a return to the U-17 competition, the technical team is at the final stage of the recruitment process for players within that age category.
Today, at the home of Gambian football, the National Technical Training Centre, in Old Yundum, a recently appointed technical team led by assistant Coach Lamin Sanneh, began a weeklong screening of the players.
The screening was initially led by the Gambia Football Federation’s regional coaches nationwide, with each regional coach identifying the best players in their respective regions through our FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS). These players are now the ones being further screened by the U-17 coaches before a final squad would be selected for the Senegal tournament. Thirty (30) players identified from the West Coast Region were screened earlier today.
In the absence of the Head Coach Yahya Manneh, who’s currently with the U-20 in Liberia, his assistant Lamin Sanneh was also in Jarra Soma over the weekend to scout more players during the Gambia Secondary Schools football finals.
The Gambia is drawn in Group A with hosts Senegal, Liberia, and Guinea for the West Africa Football Union (WAFU-A) U-17 qualifying tournament in Thies.
