In a historic ceremony at the statehouse in Banjul on Saturday, President Barrow hosted the inaugural Presidential Media Dinner, aimed at enhancing relations between the government and the media.
The event brought together journalists and media personalities from across the country, highlighting the significance of cooperation for the nation’s interest.
Sharing words of wisdom, President Barrow emphasised that the media’s role as watchdogs is essential in a democracy. “To realise these objectives and protect our shared values, like the Government, the media must function effectively and responsibly. In this light, I enjoin you to make the best use of your profession to take our country to a higher level.“
The Director of Press and Public Relations, Amie Bojang Sissho, highlighted the occasion as a significant demonstration of various professional roles in and outside government, all contributing towards the same goal—national building.
She paid hommage to the media for the fruitful partnership since 2017, saying “We have also extended a warm hand of friendship and cooperation to both the conventional and new or social media, because we are fully aware and quite mindful of the transformation of the media landscape globally.”
