Mr. Malamin Drammeh, the National Horticulture Expert of the UNIDO/WACOMP-GM Project, has pointed out that the intensive reporting on Horticulture has greatly improved their visibility targets.
He added that Horticulture had been a domain unreported by journalists before the WACOMP-GM Project.
” We are very proud and happy about the stories the journalists wrote,” Mr Drammeh acknowledged while appreciating the stories published on both the print and electronic media, which significantly improved their exposure to their activities.
” We are responsible for the post-harvest aspect of the onion value chain. Reporting on Horticulture was minimal, which culminated in engagement with journalists. The visibility we were yearning for has been achieved.”
Meanwhile, Mr Saikou Suwareh Jabai, the Communication and Visibility Expert of UNIDO/WACOMP-GM, said the reporting grant was competitive. Two separate veteran journalists were assigned to coordinate the reporting of stories and review them to ensure independence.” We hired a consultant to coordinate the reporting grant. When the stories were produced, someone was hired to revise stories.”
Mr Jabai stressed that the award is meant to celebrate all eight journalists who took part in the reporting grant.
“There is one outstanding story on the Quality Infrastructure component and one on the Horticulture component and the second best.”
Modou Touray won the most outstanding story for the Horticulture category, Kebba AF Touray won the most outstanding story for the Quality Infrastructure component and the third award went to Katibou Yaffa.
This is the first phase of the UNIDO WACOMP-GM Reporting Grant which came to a climax with an evening cocktail reception on Friday at the Metzy Residence.
