The Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Fabakary Tombong Jatta, delivered a statement emphasising the importance of parliamentary collaboration in addressing the region’s shared challenges.
The Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of the African Atlantic States was held in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday, 6th February 2025, under the theme “Promoting a Parliamentary Network for a Stable, Integrated, and Prosperous Atlantic Africa.”
Hon. Jatta was accompanied by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Kalipha MM Mbye, to the high-level gathering, which was hosted by the Moroccan House of Representatives. The meeting brought together Speakers of Parliaments from across the Atlantic African region to discuss strategies for enhancing regional stability, integration, and economic development.
“Our Atlantic States face complex and interdependent challenges,” Speaker Jatta stated. “These issues—whether security-related, environmental, or economic—transcend geographical borders and call for enhanced cooperation. Only collective and coordinated action will effectively and harmoniously address these challenges.”
Speaker Jatta reaffirmed The Gambia’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships, highlighting the role of parliaments in driving policy reforms and ensuring democratic governance.
