
Ahead of Women’s Rights Day 2025, the European Union has organised, with the support of the Alliance Française, a roundtable to exchange with the private sector, civil society, and women entrepreneurs on how better to support women’s economic empowerment in The Gambia. Sarata Conateh (GCCI), Rohyatou Kah, Beatrice Mboge (GWCC ), Madeline Ileleji (Business Developer) and Jankeh (Designer and Founder of Jarga) discussed with EU Ambassador to The Gambia Imma Roca i Cortés the barriers and challenges women face and how to collectively continue better addressing them. The roundtable was moderated by Raphaël Brigandi, Deputy Head of Mission of the EU in The Gambia, followed by a Women Entrepreneurial Market displaying various local products. 

The event was also attended by French chargé d’affaires Stéphane Dovert, German Deputy Head of Mission Maria Altmann, British High Commissioner Harriet King, as well as the Representative of FAO, Moshibudi Priscilla Rampedi, the representative of UNICEF, Nafisa Binte Shafique, and Alexia Lachavanne from UNFPA.
