
On March 10th, 2025, the newly appointed Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, visited H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. Accompanied by Deputy Ambassador Mr Zissimos Vergos and Acting Head of Cooperation Mr Ruben Alba Aguilera, Ambassador Mignot formally introduced himself during this significant engagement.
In her address, Vice President Tchintchibidja underscored ECOWAS’ appreciation for its robust collaboration with the EU, emphasizing the importance of the new partnership framework under the Neighbourhood Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI). This framework supports key priorities such as trade, migration, energy, agriculture, peace and security, digital transformation, and capacity-building initiatives.
H.E. Mrs Tchintchibidja also highlighted the need for enhanced coordination between the EU and ECOWAS, emphasizing ECOWAS’ involvement in decision-making and the monitoring of EU-funded projects to ensure impactful delivery. Additional discussions covered preparations for ECOWAS’ 50th Anniversary celebrations and the introduction of new joint projects under EU-ECOWAS cooperation.
This visit signifies the continued commitment to strengthening ties between the EU and ECOWAS, fostering mutual development and collaboration in priority sectors.
