
His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, today received in audience the new World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Representative, Dr. Nathan Nsubuga Bakyaita, at State House in Banjul.
The purpose of the visit was to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President and to discuss WHOโs ongoing interventions in The Gambia, as well as explore areas for strengthened collaboration in the health sector.
Dr. Bakyaita discussed with the Vice President on the WHOโs key focus areas, including the strengthening of primary health care, enhancing the national ambulance system to ensure timely access to health services, and reducing morbidity and mortalityโparticularly among women and vulnerable children.
Discussions also touched on the importance of domestic health financing and the need for sustainable investment in health. Dr. Bakyaita commended The Gambia Governmentโs commitment to strengthening the National Health Insurance Scheme and promoting public awareness and participation.
He expressed sincere appreciation to Vice President Jallow for the warm reception and the opportunity for a fruitful exchange on health development priorities in The Gambia.
