Senegal’s special anti-corruption court has formally indicted Amadou Mansour Faye, a former minister and brother-in-law of ex-president Macky Sall, on charges of embezzling over $4.6 million in public funds. The High Court of Justice, which prosecutes former government officials, denied him bail and ordered his immediate detention
Amadou Mansour Faye is the fifth official from the previous administration to face corruption charges since President Bassirou Diomaye Faye launched a sweeping anti-graft campaign earlier this year. Just last week, two other former ministers—Moustapha Diop and Aissatou Sophie Gladima—were jailed for alleged misappropriation of pandemic relief funds
While reform advocates have praised the crackdown, critics argue that the arrests may be politically motivated. The government, however, insists that the campaign is rooted in legal merit and aims to restore public trust in state institutions.
