The Gambia Police Force, with support from the Joint EU-German Support to the Gambia Police Force, has successfully completed a nationwide Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) training for Police Intervention Unit officers across five regions, Kanifing Municipality, Lower River, North Bank, Upper River, and West Coast.
Held from 9th to 27th May 2025, the program enhanced officers’ capacity to effectively manage and respond to SGBV cases. Training topics included legal frameworks, investigative procedures, referral pathways, community-based policing, and issues like FGM and child marriage.
Facilitated by GPF’s Gender and Child Welfare Unit and supported by Wassu Gambia Kafoo and GIZ, the sessions also featured case studies, interactive exercises, and a Funneh Board Game competition.
The closing ceremony saw key stakeholders, including Commissioner Foday Balajo, CSP Marie Tamba from the police, Dr. Isatou Bah from Wassoo Kafu, and Racheal Van Damme from GIZ, commend participants’ dedication and emphasize continued collaboration. Certificates of Participation were awarded, marking a milestone in GPF’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity against SGBV.
