
Hon. Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, participated in a high-level Ministerial Panel Discussion at the Africa Childcare Conference (June 18-20, 2025) held in Addis Abba, Ethiopia.
Hosted by the African Union and Africa Early Childhood Network on the theme: “Building Partnerships for Accelerating Actions towards Quality and InclusiveChildcare in Africa”, the conference brings together ministers, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss vital childcare initiatives.
Minister Drammeh delivered a powerful keynote address, highlighting The Gambia’s innovative approaches to supporting quality childcare services.
She emphasized the critical importance of Early Childhood Development (ECD) for a child’s lifelong learning and well-being, stating that investing in quality childcare is a “strategic national priority.”
She also outlined The Gambia’s efforts and ongoing commitments to address challenges and improve ECD services, including expanding support, strengthening regulations, investing in teacher development, and promoting community engagement.
The Hon. Minister was accompanied by the Director of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education Directorate (ECEID), Ms Anna Nancy Mendy.
