
The Regional Director of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Charles Basenge, and the President of The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS), along with other Red Cross Officials, paid a visit to the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Migration Management Centre in Tanji on Thursday, 26 June 2025.
As strategic partners in migration governance, the visit aimed to strengthen the existing cooperation between GID and GRCS, and assess the role of the Gambia Red Cross Society in providing psychosocial support, counselling, reception and accommodation to migrants during interceptions.
Speaking on behalf of the Director General, Ebrima Mboob, the Assistant Director General of Administration, Olimatou Jammeh, highlighted the longstanding partnership and collaboration between the two institutions. She recounted numerous successes in promoting the rights of migrants while extending GID’s continuous resolve in strengthening inter-agency cooperation and deploying a rights-based approach in migration management.
The President of The Gambia Red Cross Society, Mr. Fabakary Kalleh, reiterated the relevance of the existing collaboration between the two institutions, which continues to support global efforts to safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups, especially migrants at risk of exploitation.

Both institutions reiterated their commitment to nurturing the existing partnership to safeguard the rights of migrants through effective migration management strategies.
