
Honourable brima Jawo, the Executive Coordinator of Banjul, made key submissions, including introducing a points endorsement system on driving licenses to serve as a deterrent against traffic violations.
He spoke recently at the Gambia Road Transport Bill 2025 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.
The Banjul Executive Coordinator proposed the implementation of congestion charges within commercial areas in Banjul to boost revenue for local councils and reduce urban pollution. He further recommended the introduction of parking fines, appointment of special Magistrates to handle traffic offences and the enforcement to ensure roadworthiness and safety.
The two-day event brought together various stakeholders to review and validate the draft bill, aimed at enhancing road safety and improving the coordination, regulation, and standardisation of transport-related activities in the country.
The event marks a significant step towards a more structured and safer road transport system in the Gambia.
