His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia, today received a high-level delegation from New Globe, a US-based education technology company, at the State House in Banjul.
The meeting focused on a proposed strategic partnership aimed at transforming The Gambiaโs public education system through digital innovation and foundational learning reforms. The initiative seeks to empower teachers, enhance accountability, and elevate literacy and numeracy rates to meet global best practices.
Ms. Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu, Vice President for Policy and Partnerships in Africa, emphasized the urgent need for digitalisation in education across Africa, noting that “foundational learning is the bedrock of development.” She highlighted alarming statistics showing that 70-80% of children in Sub-Saharan Africa complete primary school without basic reading or writing skills.
New Globeโs model includes teacher training, digital tools like tablets for real-time monitoring, and full visibility into school and student performanceโright down to the classroom level. โWe want every school and every region in The Gambia to be visible through a digital dashboardโaccessible to the offices,โ she said.
She expressed gratitude to the Vice President for welcoming the initiative, reaffirming his commitment to digital transformation in the education sector and ensuring that no child is left behind. The partnership aims to support human capital development and prepare Gambian learners to thrive in the 21st century.
Together, weโre laying the foundation for a brighter, smarter future for every Gambian child.
