
As part of their mission to inspect and observe flood-prone areas for immediate intervention in the provincial regions, the National Roads Authority (NRA) technical team on Friday, 4th July 2025, visited the ongoing Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) Lots 1 and 2 roads in the Upper River and Central River Region, respectively.
The 69km Lot 1 road project is contracted to Gai Construction Company and CityScape Associates the Consultant. It comprises several roads in the URR with a total length of 69km.
The contractor is currently working on six (6) out of fifteen (15) roads. The roads being constructed are as follows;-
1. Basse Manneh Kunda – Demba Kunda – Gambisara Road (12.18km).
2. Basse – Dampha Kunda – Tambasasang Road (9.20km).
3. Chamoi – Dampha Kunda Road (2.66km).
4. Angalfuta Road – Reinforced Concrete Pavement (1.75km).
5. Manneh Kunda Road – Reinforced Concrete Pavement (1.68km).
6. Brikamaba – Boiram – Njoben Road (6.32km).
7. Sutukoba – Chamoi Bunda Road, (27km).
The contractor’s current activities in alleviating any flooding issues in Lot 1 include:
The ongoing construction of the giant culvert at the Basse – Dampha Kunda – Tambasasang Road.
Finalising all the critical areas for flood intervention in Numuyel, where the flood water level used to be very high.
Working on temporary waterway structures in Chamoi Bunda Road, where it floods the people’s compounds.
The contractor is also working on the erosion protection on the drainage structures.
Meanwhile, other current activities on site are concreting and payment works. They have already cleared the Brikamaba-Wellingara Ba road and are also working on addressing the recent minor flooding issue in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, in Lot 2 of the EPC Roads Project in the Central River Region (CRR).
The Contractor Cornerstone Construction company is actively working on two (2) roads out of the three (3) various road sections.
1: Njau Loop up to Carol Warf (12km).
2: Karantaba-Reneru-Tabanani-Demfaye Njaga-fitu Fulla (26km).
3: Laminkoto-Banni-Youna-Kunting (12km).
Although there have not been any flooding issues yet, the contractor has identified measures to tackle any incoming flooding problems.
Ongoing site works, the contractor Cornerstone is now working on both the base course and double surface dressing in the Karantaba-Reneru-Tabanani-Demfaye Njaga-fitu Fulla road.
5km of Surface dressing has already been completed, and 11km of priming has already been done.
However, both contractors (Gai Construction and Cornerstone) are on standby in case of any eventualities during the upcoming rains.
