President Adama Barrow has officially laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Deep Sea Port in Sanyang, marking a historic milestone in The Gambia’s economic development agenda.
The project is expected to significantly boost the country’s trade capacity while generating thousands of jobs across various sectors.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Barrow described the port as a transformative infrastructure initiative that will position The Gambia as a strategic hub for maritime commerce in the region.
“This Deep Sea Port will not only enhance our trade capabilities but will also serve as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation,” he said. “It is a step toward securing a prosperous future for all Gambians.”
Once completed, the port is projected to open up new economic corridors, improve import and export efficiency, and attract foreign investment. Officials say the development aligns with the government’s broader vision to modernize infrastructure and strengthen the national economy.
