In a bid to facilitate the work of partner institutions in the Tourism Diversification project, the Ministry of Tourism this morning presented working tools to them.
The event, which happened at the Ministry’s conference hall at the quadrangle in Banjul, witnessed the presentation of laptops and printers, among other items.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abdoulie Jobe, said the beneficiary institutions must utilise the material for the intended purpose while urging them to properly maintain it.
He added that if statistics are not available, Gambia will not be able to know the number of tourists visiting the country.
” Our aim is to create a sustainable, data-driven tourism sector where decisions are made based on facts rather than opinions s”
For his part, the project coordinator, Mr Momodou Ceesay, stressed the importance of the materials in tourism data collection, noting that the move is an essential project component to boost data collection in tourism statistics.
The beneficiary institutions include the National Centre for Arts and Culture, the Gambia Immigration Department, the Gambia Bureau of Statistics, and the Gambia Tourism Board.
This initiative will help the Tourism Diversification and Resilience project rely more on data-driven decisions and ensure tourism continues to create jobs, support communities, and grow sustainably for The Gambia’s future.
