On Saturday, the Alkamba Times, one of the country’s leading online media platforms, held its first in-house media training at the Gambia Press Union Premises, marking a significant step in its mission to champion ethical journalism.
The event, themed “Empowering Ethical Journalism,” brought together journalists, editors, and photographers to hone their skills and reinforce their commitment to truth and professionalism.
Founder and Editor-in-Chief Sainey MK Marenah delivered a keynote address, urging attendees to uphold accuracy, fairness, independence, and accountability. “Journalism is the heartbeat of accountability in The Gambia’s fragile democracy,” he said, emphasizing the media’s role in amplifying the voiceless and holding power to account.
The training featured workshops on ethical journalism, fact-checking, and storytelling techniques, as well as the development of an in-house editorial policy to guide the newsroom’s work.
Gambia Press Union Secretary General Modou Joof attended the event, underscoring Alkamba Times’ dedication to a stronger media ecosystem. Participants left inspired, ready to shape a legacy of trust and integrity in Gambian journalism.
