
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Honorable Dawda A. Jallow, today appeared before the Special Select Committee established to inquire into the sale and disposal of assets identified by the Janneh Commission. The sitting focused on providing insights into the establishment, operations, and oversight of the Janneh Commission of Inquiry, constituted under Legal Notice No. 15 of 2017.
During the hearing, the Attorney General was addressed questions regarding the legal basis and intent behind the Commission’s establishment, institutional rationale, and the Ministry of Justice’s role in shaping the Commission’s mandate. The Committee sought clarity on the invocation of Section 200 of the Constitution and the Commissions of Inquiry Act, as well as the selection process for the Receiver and the appointment of Commissioners and Lead Counsel.
The Committee also inquired about the government’s efforts to preserve assets linked to the inquiry, financial administration, and oversight mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability.
The meeting was adjourned until Tuesday, 15th July 2025, with another witness scheduled to appear.
