In another significant step to strengthen civic education and promote human rights awareness in school, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the Curriculum Research Evaluation and Development Directorate (CREDD), under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), today, commenced a four-day validation workshop aimed at reviewing the findings of the Joint Monitoring of the Civic Education Report.
The workshop marks the latest phase in a comprehensive process that began with expert curriculum review sessions held in September and December 2024. These sessions culminated in the development and presentation of revised Civic Education textbooks and a detailed Teachersโ Guide for Upper Basic Schools, which were officially handed over to MoBSE in April 2025.
Participants of the workshop include key education stakeholders such as representatives from NHRC, the National Council for Civic Education (NCCE), the Conference of Principals for Upper Basic Schools, Gambia College, various MOBSE Directorates, and practising teachers.
Over the course of the workshop, participants will work collaboratively to validate the revised curriculum content and teaching methodologies. They will also incorporate feedback from pilot schools, align educational materials with democratic values and human rights principles, and reach a broad stakeholder consensus on the final version of the learning materials.
The activity is supported by International IDEA through the EU-CODE project.
