The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has commenced a five-day retreat aimed at improving foundational learning outcomes for early grade students.
The event, being organized at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre, is a collaborative effort to develop a structured pedagogy approach for the implementation of a foundational learning program, a key component of the RISE Project aimed at improving learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy for students in early Grades.
The retreat brings together a wide range of stakeholders in the education ecosystem.
These include representatives from the World Bank, UNICEF, MRC Holland, NGOs, as well as MoBSE officials, teachers, and school managers.
Also key attendees are experts from partner organizations in the implementation of the foundational learning program such as: Learning Masterminds (LM), a Ghanaian team of foundational learning specialists, and Effective Intervention (EI) , an organization known for its success in improving literacy and numeracy using effective strategies.
The primary goal of the retreat is to combine the expertise of the visiting foundational learning experts from Ghana and Effective Intervention to develop a robust, structured teaching framework that will serve as a tool to improve foundational learning outcomes of Gambian Children.
