
The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure on Monday 18 August proudly welcomed 13 exceptional students who recently graduated from the Regional Maritime University in Ghana.
This cohort, sponsored by the Government of The Gambia, includes ten graduates with distinction and three who achieved upper-class honors.
Ms Mariama Fofana, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, highlighted the significance of this initiative, which was first conceived in 2019. The program emerged from an assessment of the sector that identified a critical skills gap.
βWe realized that there was a need for skilled professionals in the sector and developed initiatives *which*aimed at bridging this gap,β she stated.
DPS Fofana expressed gratitude to President Barrow for his unwavering support of this educational endeavor which was lunch by him in 2020. Noting the fact that last year marked the return of the first batch of students, all ten of whom graduated with distinction and have since been successfully integrated into the workforce. Notably GPA, GMA, Civil Aviation, GIA and Gambia Ferry Service.
This year, she expressed particular delight in the progress made, as four of the graduates are female, all of whom also graduated with distinction.
βIt is encouraging to see more women entering this field, and we are proud of their achievements,β she added.
Lamin T Ceesay, Cherno s Jallow , Ahmet Njie , muminatou Barrow all expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Gambia Government for providing them with the opportunity to pursue their studies in various fields of Engineering ( Nautical Science, Marine, mechanical, computer, electrical electronics).
Their dedication and hard work have not only earned them academic accolades but also positioned them as future leaders in the maritime industry and related sectors.
The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure under the leadership of Honorable Ebrima Sillah remains optimistic about the future, as these graduates are poised to make significant contributions to the industry and the nation as a whole.
