In Dakar, Senegal, the Minister of Works has been elected as the new mayor, succeeding Barthelemy Dias.
As a reminder, Barthelemy Dias was removed from the mayorship by the Supreme Court. Although he challenged the decision, the court upheld its ruling.
Today, Monday, August 25, 2025, the Dakar mayoral election was organized under the supervision of the governor of Dakar, resulting in Abass Fall’s election.
It is important to note that Abass Fall will continue Barthelemy Dias’s mandate until the next mayoral election in Senegal.
Barthelemy Dias and his supporters have labeled the decision as illegal and politically motivated.
Some political analysts argue that the ruling is justified by law, while others suggest that the Pastef party, led by Ousmane Sonko, is employing the same tactics they accused President Macky Sall of using to remove Barthelemy Dias from office.
