
Earlier today, Beakanyang uccessfully launched its family tree growing programme at Nyakoi Taibatou in Wuli West District of URR.
The five-year initiative is a collaborative effort launched in partnership with S&D farms and the Regional Forestry Office in Basse.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director Mr Nfamara Jawneh highlighted the rationale behind the initiative.
“Over the years through our Environment Unit, we had provided communities across this region with thousands of trees. However, following an assessment we realized that the survival rate of those trees donated and planted was low. As such we decided to give it to families this time around,”he said.
According to him, in the text 5 years, they will be growing 10,000 trees with the participating families.
Speaking on behalf of S&D Farms, Mr. Sarjo Jatta thanked Beakanyang for the community Greening initiative.
“We are committed to supporting the efforts of Beakanyang. We urge all beneficiary families to take care of their trees to ensure high survival rates,”he said.
Beneficiaries including Oley Saidy of Madina koto, Manneh Kijera of Sutukonding and KangMai Jabby of Taibatou hailed Beakanyang for its continue afforestation efforts.
They pledged that as families they will take good care of their trees.
Meanwhile, as part of the launching, several samplings were planted at the community spaces with the community.
