On the evening of 22nd September 2025, heavy rainfall struck Banjul, affecting several homes. The disaster sparked an urgent call for reinforcement, with the Red Cross and the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) swiftly engaging to assess the situation.
Hon. Ebrima Jawo, Executive Coordinator of Banjul, immediately contacted the NDMA to conduct a full assessment of the disaster. Findings emphasised that blockage of water canals and a weak drainage system remain the major contributing factors.
Hon. Jawo highlighted the need for urgent community responsibility, reminding residents that Banjul’s lowland nature makes it vulnerable to flooding. He urged everyone to clear waterways and avoid blockages to ensure smooth drainage through the city’s canals.
Together, let’s protect our city and prevent future disasters.
