President Adama Barrow has called on Gambians to uphold peace and unity following violent protests in Mandinaring over the death of Omar Badjie.
“Let us not allow division or incitement to derail our unity and progress,” he said, pledging that the government would protect lawful rights while ensuring that perpetrators of violence are held accountable through due process.
Speaking directly to the security forces, Barrow emphasised the need for professionalism, restraint, and respect for citizens’ rights while maintaining public order.
“Peace and stability are our shared responsibility,” he added, urging Gambians to channel their grievances through democratic institutions, including the National Assembly, the courts, and civil society.
In closing, he appealed for national unity, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to national values.
“Only together, through peaceful engagement and shared responsibility, can we build the Gambia of our dreams,” he said.
