
The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested two men in possession of significant quantities of ecstasy as part of its intensified crackdown on illicit drugs.
The suspects, 54-year-old Mam Babou Sowe of Kotu and 62-year-old Badou of Bakau, were apprehended in Bakau on 1 October 2025 around 18:30 GMT with 8,188 pills of suspected ecstasy. They are currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation, 26-year-old Omar Darboe was arrested by DLEAG’s Brikama Station on 30 September 2025 around 17:00 GMT at Brikama Daruhairu. He was found with one block and 185 pieces of suspected hashish.
Another arrest was made on 27 September 2025, when 35-year-old Suwaibou Njie of Bakoteh was taken into custody by DLEAG’s Manjai Field Office. He was allegedly found in possession of four parcels and four wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.
DLEAG said the arrests underline its continued commitment to intensifying operations against the trafficking and abuse of prohibited drugs across the country.
