The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly has announced the immediate and strict enforcement of security and dress code policies aimed at ensuring safety and maintaining decorum within the parliamentary premises.
According to the statement, the move is intended to guarantee a safe, secure, and conducive environment for legislative work, parliamentary staff, and all visitors.
Effective immediately, the following items are strictly prohibited within the National Assembly premises, including the chamber, offices, committee rooms, and surrounding areas:
1. All categories of firearms, whether loaded or unloaded.
2. Knives, bladed instruments, machetes, and other sharp or pointed objects.
3. Explosives or explosive devices.
4. Any dangerous instruments or objects that could cause harm or threaten security.
5. Mobile phones, except for authorized personnel who require electronic devices to perform official functions in designated areas.
The statement further emphasized that security officers officially authorized to carry firearms must deposit their weapons with the Sergeant-at-Arms for safe custody immediately upon arrival and before entering the main premises.
In addition, the public is reminded that the National Assembly’s dress code will be strictly enforced. All visitors, including journalists, guests, and official delegations, are required to dress appropriately as a mark of respect for the institution. Individuals whose attire is deemed inappropriate may be denied entry.
While acknowledging that these measures may cause some inconvenience, the Office of the Clerk reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the safety and integrity of the National Assembly, its members, staff, and all stakeholders.
