
The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), has arrested nine people in a major cannabis crackdown in Sami District, Central River Region.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of October 10, involved DLEAG’s CRR Command, Basse and LRR DLEAG Commands, the Police Intervention Unit (PIU), and the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services.
Among those arrested were two alleged child offenders, aged 15 and 17.
The bust also uncovered two cannabis farms on the outskirts of Sawma Kunda village.
The operation began with the arrest of Essa Jawo, 28, of Mbafaf village. Interrogation led authorities to the other suspects: Momodou Camara, 60, Alkalo of Sawma Kunda; Kaka Jawo, 26, Mbafaf; Essa Camara, 27, Sawma Kunda; Samba Barry, 26, Mbafaf; Samba Bah, 21, Sawma Kunda; Abdoulie Bah, 24, Mbafaf; and the two minors from Sawma Kunda and Tabayel village.
Two motorcycles were also recovered during the operation.
DLEAG management praised the Inspector General of Police, CRR PIU, and Gambia Fire and Rescue Services for their support. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
