After three days of inspiring dialogue and collective resolve, the curtains have closed on the 2nd International Social Protection Conference held in Banjul.
Delivering the closing statement on behalf of His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants β including representatives from the European Union, UN agencies, the World Bank, civil society, and other key partners β for their invaluable contributions.
In his remarks, the Minister underscored that social protection is not a luxury, but a fundamental pillar of dignity and opportunity. He reaffirmed The Gambiaβs steadfast commitment to:
β
Consolidate the gains of the National Social Protection Policy;
β
Align future policies with sub-regional and international frameworks;
β
Adopt sustainable financing strategies, prioritizing domestic resource mobilization in line with the Addis Ababa Declaration; and
β
Build adaptive, resilient systems capable of responding to crises, economic shocks, and climate-related challenges.
He further emphasized that every Dalasi invested in social protection must translate into real, measurable impact β lifting families from poverty, protecting vulnerable groups, empowering workers, and supporting persons with disabilities.
βAs we depart this conference,β he concluded, βlet us move from intent to implementation β from paper to peopleβs lives. The government of His Excellency Adama Barrow remains deeply committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.β
Together, letβs continue building a future where every Gambian enjoys dignity, protection, and opportunity.
