United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainou Darboe has urged all political parties not aligned with President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) to unite under a common front aimed at what he called “rescuing” The Gambia.
Speaking to supporters on Saturday, October 25, 2025, upon his return from a European tour, the UDP leader appealed for unity among opposition parties, stressing that only a collective effort can bring meaningful reform and national renewal.
“I ask all political actors and parties that are not in alliance with Barrow to come and join UDP so that together we will rescue this country,” Darboe said, warning that The Gambia is “sinking” and that inaction would endanger future generations.
Darboe emphasized the need for discipline, commitment, and cooperation to restore the country’s economy and democratic governance, adding that there is “no magic solution” to the nation’s challenges.
He called for immediate action ahead of the 2026 presidential elections, tasking each UDP supporter to recruit at least one new member as part of a grassroots mobilization effort. The UDP leader also pledged vigilance to ensure that next year’s polls are free and fair.
Darboe expressed optimism that, with unity and determination, the UDP and its allies can unseat President Barrow and “put The Gambia back on the right path.”
