The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) on Wednesday launched a 15-day counterterrorism training programme for selected Gambian security personnel at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.
The training, held under the patronage of Defence Minister Baboucarr Joof, is part of IMCTC’s efforts to strengthen member states’ capacity to combat terrorism and respond to emerging security threats.
It focuses on improving both strategic and operational preparedness in line with international counterterrorism standards.
Participants include field commanders, officers, and strategic planners drawn from various units across the security services.
Over the next two weeks, they will receive intensive training on prevention, rapid response, and coordinated strategic planning.
In his opening remarks, Defence Minister Joof said terrorism and violent extremism remain serious threats to national and regional stability, urging participants to make full use of the programme.
“Hosting this training underlines our commitment to equipping our security forces with the knowledge and strategic skills needed to confront modern threats,” he said.
The training is expected to enhance collaboration, readiness, and intelligence-sharing within the country’s security architecture.
