In fulfilling his government’s promise of improving the living quality of Hakalang residents, His Excellency President Adama Barrow inaugurated the 84.5-kilometer Nuimi-Hakalang road connecting settlements in Lower and Upper Nuimi and Jokadou districts to the rest of the North Bank Region (NBR).
Delivering his statement at the ceremony, The Gambian leader took pride in enhancing connectivity for isolated communities to access health care services and facilitating easier movement of agricultural produce to markets as well as improving social mobility and economic growth.
“Our farmers struggled extremely hard to transport their produce, while traders had to face huge obstacles before reaching the business centres of their choice. Access to schools, markets, healthcare facilities, and other services remained a nightmare.” He said.
The road also leads to Kunta Kinteh Island and the historic settlement of Jufureh to boost tourism and the local economy through improved accessibility.
The Governor of North Bank Region, Lamin Saidykhan added that the Barrow administration did not only provide road infrastructure in the NBR, but also include social services such as health care facilities, tractors, schools and water and electricity.
Griots and various speakers praised President Barrow as the first President in Gambian history to provide a motorable road condition for the residents and people plying the Hakalang road network.
