As part of his ongoing nationwide “Meet the People” tour, His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Wednesday conducted a high-level inspection of major industrial and healthcare development sites in Bereto, Farafenni, and Wassu. The tour included visits to the Jah Oil Cement Factory, the Africa50 Trans-Gambia Bridge Company Headquarters, the FAAB Maternity Unit at Farafenni General Hospital, and the Wassu Agro Logistics Center.
These strategic projects, once completed, are expected to significantly enhance domestic production, create employment opportunities, improve transport infrastructure efficiency, and strengthen healthcare service delivery across The Gambia.
President Barrow, accompanied by cabinet ministers and senior government officials, began the day’s engagements from his residence in Farafenni. The first stop was the Jah Oil Cement Factory in Bereto, a flagship industrial project strategically located along the Senegambia Bridge corridor. The factory is part of Jah Oil’s broader commitment to national industrialization and import substitution.
Currently under construction, the facility is projected to produce up to 100,000 bags of cement daily and create approximately 300 jobs. It is scheduled for completion in November 2025 and is expected to bolster the country’s manufacturing capacity, reduce reliance on imports, and stimulate regional economic activity.
The President also visited the Africa50 Trans-Gambia Bridge Company’s new office complex in Bereto. Slated for completion by year-end, the facility will house administrative, finance, and operations departments, as well as a maintenance block for servicing vehicles and equipment. It will employ around 34 staff.
A new weighbridge station is also being constructed to replace the existing one in Bereto, with an additional station underway in Jenoi. These upgrades aim to enhance the company’s operational efficiency, improve logistics, and ensure the long-term sustainability of one of the country’s most critical regional transport links.
In Farafenni, President Barrow inspected the FAAB Maternity Unit under construction at the General Hospital. The initiative, spearheaded by the First Lady’s Foundation, is designed to improve maternal and child health outcomes by offering safe, accessible, and fully equipped maternity services.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to equitable development, President Barrow emphasized the government’s pledge to provide clean and affordable drinking water to every Gambian—regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.
These site visits underscore the government’s focus on infrastructure-led growth and inclusive service delivery, aligning with national development priorities and the aspirations of the Gambian people.
