The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations in The Gambia (TANGO) on Tuesday received a high-powered delegation from the Nigerian Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), who are in the country on a study tour in collaboration with the Gambia Armed Forces.
The 53-member delegation, comprising senior course participants and faculty members, is in The Gambia to explore how the country manages the influence of non-state actors on national security and economic development. The visit forms part of the AFCSCโs curriculum, which includes regional study tours to examine contemporary security challenges and governance models across West Africa.
During their engagement at TANGOโs headquarters, the delegation was briefed on the role of civil society in The Gambiaโs democratic transition, peacebuilding efforts, and socio-economic development. Discussions focused on how non-state actors, including NGOs, community-based organisations, and advocacy groups, contribute to national stability, policy dialogue, and service delivery.
TANGOโs leadership welcomed the visit as a recognition of the critical role civil society plays in shaping inclusive governance.
The study tour is expected to strengthen ties between Gambian and Nigerian institutions and promote shared learning on managing the evolving landscape of non-state actors in West Africa. The delegation is scheduled to meet with other stakeholders during their stay, including government agencies and development partners.
