The Government of Senegal has announced that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, today participated in the extraordinary ECOWAS Summit, convened virtually to address the situation in Guinea-Bissau.
The emergency meeting followed the power grab in Bissau on Wednesday. During this session, several measures were adopted, including a strong condemnation of the attempted forceful takeover, an appeal for the restoration of constitutional order, and an immediate call for the release of President Umaro Sissoco Embalรณ and all other detainees.
The Heads of State further decided to establish a restricted mediation committee, which includes Senegal. This initiative successfully ensured the safe arrival in Senegal of President Umaro Sissoco Embalรณ.
The Senegalese government says it is collaborating with ECOWAS, the African Union, and other relevant partners to promote dialogue, stability, and the swift restoration of constitutional order and democratic legitimacy in Guinea-Bissau.
