The first photograph of suspected Jungler member Sanna Manjang has emerged following his arrest in Senegal.
Manjang, a former operative of ex-president Yahya Jammeh’s notorious paramilitary unit known as The Junglers, was captured during a joint Gambian–Senegalese security operation in the Casamance region.
The Junglers have been accused of torture, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings during Jammeh’s rule.
Manjang, who has been on the run since 2017, is one of several former security officers named in the Truth Commission’s report for his alleged role in serious human rights abuses.
The Gambia government said arrangements are underway to repatriate him.
Meanwhile, Senegalese forces have also announced the arrest of several suspected MFDC rebels in Casamance, following intelligence reports of a possible training camp allegedly linked to a plot to destabilise The Gambia.
