On Wednesday, December 3, Umaro Sissoco Emballo left Brazzaville, accompanied by his family, for Morocco, where he hopes to find refuge after the coup that ousted him from power in Guinea-Bissau. This is his third trip in a week, following those to Dakar and Brazzaville.
According to information from Jeune Afrique, Umaro Sissoco Emballo was not “driven out” of Dakar, where he spent only 48 hours. He reportedly decided to leave the Senegalese capital himself to seek refuge elsewhere. The reason: remarks made by Ousmane Sonko during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly, in which he stated that the coup in Guinea-Bissau was a “scheme” orchestrated by Sissoco Emballo himself. These remarks were apparently not well received by the now former head of state. Moreover, in remarks reported by Jeune Afrique, the former president of Guinea-Bissau dismissed as “fake news” the information that he was behind the coup. “If I had organized all of this myself, I would still be in power,” he asserted.
