The Barrow-led administration strongly commits to digitalizing the country’s agricultural sector. Following a pilot and assessment of the digital payment system introduced last trade season, the Government made significant investments in digital systems and modern machines in preparation for the 2025 groundnut season.
The initiative is a historic milestone toward building a more efficient, transparent, and technology-driven groundnut value chain. The new motorised screening machines are expected to enhance cleaning processes, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve the market value of groundnuts, the main cash crop of The Gambia.
Equally transformative is the introduction of Point of Sale (POS) devices, which will enable digital payments and improve transparency, expedite transactions, strengthen security, and promote financial inclusion, especially in rural Gambia.
The ongoing training and technical support in the digitisation of the groundnut value chain will ensure farmers are empowered in the proper use and long-term sustainability of the new technologies.
On Friday, 5th December 2025, the Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security, Honourable Demba Sabally, and the Managing Director of the NFSPMC, Muhammed Njie, presided over the launch of the digital system at the National Food Security, Processing and Marketing Corporation’s headquarters in Banjul. Government officials, SECCO Presidents, farmer representatives, and various other stakeholders from across the country witnessed the launching ceremony.
