The Deputy Director General of Immigration, Ms. Hullay Jallow Cham, supported by Commissioner Kaba Mbye of Central River Region and Assistant Commissioner Binta KJ Barrow of the Migration Management Unit, received a delegation of the Peace Building Fund (PBF) mission at Tabanding Border Post on Wednesday, 10th December 2025.
The PBF Mission, a composition of delegates from several country representatives, through the UN Agency, embarked on an assessment of the PBF Project implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the construction of a border post at Tabanding, equipped with state-of-earth solar installation and MIDAS technology to support border management.
DDGI Jallow accounted the impact of the project in supporting GIDβs reform strategies, enhancing its operational capabilities and adapt to evolving migration trends and security sector reform strategies.
The Officer in Charge of IOM Gambia, Ms. Sibgha Ajaz and PBF Coordinator, Ms. Golda Keng, both highlighted the projectβs impact in the Gambia and how it represents a model in the investment of the Peace Building Fund in the Gambia. The project supported the enhancement of Community Resilience and Social Cohesion through the operationalization of an Inter-Agency Border Border Coordination Committee (IABCC) and the Senegalo-Gambia cross-border cooperation, manifested as a deliverable of the project.
A/Comm Barrow, Comm. Kaba Mbye, Security Chiefs, Community Leaders and Regional Authorities shared similar experiences, recounting the successes of the project while outlining emerging gaps and constraints such as mobility constraints that pose challenges to effective border control and security.
Delegates of the PBF Mission shared their experiences in the assessment of the project impact and kept stock of the gaps identified for possible intervention.
The GID extends appreciation to the UN PBF, IOM and all partners for their ongoing support and partnership in promoting sustainable migration governance and border security.
