The Mobile Traffic Unit of the Gambia Police Force, together with the Ministry of Transport, The Gambia Red Cross Society, WHO, and the General Transport Union, on December 24, 2025, held a community engagement in Njaba Kunda and surrounding satellite villages as part of the ongoing nationwide โWalk Safe, Ride Safe, Drive Safeโ road safety campaign.
During the engagement, residents highlighted several concerns affecting road safety along the Farafenni-Barra corridor, including overspeeding, particularly by young motorcyclists, vehicles and carts operating at night without proper lights or reflectors, livestockโvehicle collisions near cattle crossing points, and outdated driving licences resulting in limited knowledge of traffic signs. Some residents also raised concerns about injured accident victims being asked to notify Police before receiving medical care at certain facilities.
Community members requested strengthened enforcement on speeding, licence verification, and night-time visibility compliance. They further recommended that the sensitisation campaign be held quarterly due to its positive impact and educational value.
The Chief of Njaba Kunda, Mr. Sawaneh, delivered closing remarks, expressing appreciation to the GPF and partners for prioritising public safety and calling for continued collaboration to protect lives on the road.
