The Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, H.E. Sering Modou Njie, on Wednesday 31st December 2025 warmly welcomed the Ambassador of the State of Libya to The Gambia, in his office in Banjul, reaffirming the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, anchored in shared African solidarity and mutual respect.
During the meeting, Minister Njie expressed appreciation for the support extended by Libyan authorities and partners to Gambian migrants residing in Libya, particularly in facilitating voluntary return and reintegration in close coordination with the Government of The Gambia and international partners, like the IOM. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to humane, orderly, and dignified migration management.
The Minister noted that still many Gambian migrants remain in Libya awaiting exit clearance and emphasized The Gambiaβs readiness to work with Libyan authorities to expedite these processes in a timely and orderly manner. He also acknowledged the positive coordination mechanisms established between Gambian and Libyan institutions, which have enhanced protection, information-sharing, and operational cooperation on migration matters.
Special recognition was given to the Gambian Diaspora Association in Libya for their continued support to Gambian nationals, complementing government-led initiatives and facilitating communication and voluntary return processes.
Minister Njie concluded by reaffirming The Gambiaβs commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Libya, and to continue engaging each other on migration management, diaspora engagement, and consular collaboration, and expressed confidence in continued constructive engagement during the Ambassadorβs tenure.
For his part, H.E. Munsef Mohammed Haweel Naseeb Ambassador of Libya also reaffirmed the commitment of his country to continue engaging and partnering with The Gambia, describing the relationship between the two countries as long-standing and excellent anchored on shared African principles of solidarity and supporting each other. Ambassador Naseeb concluded by assuring Hon. Minister Njie of his determination to further strengthen the Gambia-Libya relations during his tour of duty.
