Dr Seedy Drammeh an author and writer on Sunday the 25 th of January has unveiled his new book titled ‘ The Unifying Power Of Eating Together or With Others at a ceremony held at the B. O Semega Janneh Hall in Latri Kunda Sabiji. The book marks the 37th series since he started embarking as an author and public administrator as he currently holds the position of Deputy Director of Human Resources at the Gambia Revenue Authority.
In his reviewing of the book, veteran educationist Michael Secka noted that the unifying power of eating together brings happiness and joy in to families, societies and communities as well as providing positive thinking among members of the family. When we eat together, it build love among ourselves, so eating together is very important and it’s a tradition that must be nurtured, he advised. This points was also re-echoed by Mr John Bull Nwarie another book reviewer at the event.
In addressing the packed full hall mostly by family members and friends, the author Dr Seedy Drammeh said it was a tradition for most of them during our early days to have all the meals together with family and others. He said it is during this shared environment, a lot of benefits comes out of it. It teaches the young ones moral values that is exhibited from the elders. It also encourages maintenance of peace in our families and societies. Dr Drammeh emphasized the need for good moral values because according to him, if you lack moral standard, your knowledge is as someone who have not been to school. Eating together remove misunderstanding between families and it promotes compassion, sympathy and love among each other. Our elders and ancestors need to be applauded for giving us this very important social values, stated Dr Drammeh. This values, he recommended, should be nurtured, preserve, communicate and passed it to our young ones and the generations yet unborn. Anything that makes us unified is because of our moral standards.
In concluding, Dr Drammeh revealed the secret behind writing books which he assented as interaction with the elderly in a form of interview or by asking pertinent questions about our tradition and how they are done. There is no way, we can sell our stories better than ourselves and we need to have self belief, because as far as am concerned, everyone is created with a talent, it depends on that individual how he utilize that talent. We need to believe in ourselves so that we can promote ourselves, he advised.
The book launch was characterized by drumming, singing and dancing and attended by family members, friends and large delegation from the community of See Kunda.
Jerry Drammeh spoke on behalf of the family stating that Seedy is a bonafide son of their village who is always helpful to the community. He noted that last year after the launching of his book, he donated ten thousand dalasi to the youths of the village and also provide a substantial amount to those women whose husband died. He said Seedy is very generous and they are only praying for him to have long life and good health.
The author Dr Seedy Drammeh was born in See Kunda, Jarra West District of the Lower River Region. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and is currently the Deputy Director, Human Resources at the Gambia Revenue Authority.
